Whanganui book launch for memoir The former Honorary Consul for New Zealand in Egypt, Elhamy Elzayat, will celebrate the launch of his biography in Whanganui on Thursday, 10 August 2017. Co-written with Whanganui author Joan Rosier-Jones, Doing it my Way – An Egyptian Memoir gives a fascinating personal view of modern Egypt and encapsulates Elhamy’s lifelong work to sponsor peace in the Middle East through tourism. Elhamy is Chairman and CEO of Emeco Travel, which he established in 1976. It has grown to become one of Egypt’s leading travel companies. He was the first man to establish tourism between Egypt and Israel, first by boat, then bus, and finally by air with Nefertiti Airlines. In 1999 he became Honorary Consul for New Zealand in Egypt and when an official embassy opened in Cairo seven years later, he became an Honorary Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM) awarded by then Prime Minister Helen Clark.
